Key Stage 2

Key Stage 2 comprises of children in Years 3 through to Year 6.   At Endeavour Academy we divide the key stage into Lower KS2 (LKS2) made up of Year 3 and Year 4 and Upper KS2 (UKS2) made up of Year 5 and Year 6.

As an academy, Endeavour Academy is not legally required to follow the new National Curriculum introduced in September 2014. However, we have chosen to devise a curriculum in line with the knowledge and skills promoted in the National Curriculum as this suits the needs of our pupils.

The curriculum is delivered through an effective combination of teacher delivery, pupil interaction, teacher led activities and pupils’ active learning. As pupils progress through Key Stage 2 the prevalence of open ended tasks becomes greater in order to challenge thinking and to prepare pupils for secondary education. Discrete teaching of Maths and English takes place each morning and the thematic topic teaching of foundation subjects takes place in the afternoon. Homework is presented at an appropriate level for each year group and consists of consolidation and practice of classroom learning and/or opportunities for home research.

Where children have gaps in learning, staff work closely with them through additional support and interventions in order to close those gaps and improve ability and confidence for all children.

If you would like to know more about the curriculum your child is following, please speak with your child’s class teacher who will be happy to give you further information
